This initiative was more than just a clean-up; it was a powerful demonstration of how youth-led action can transform school environments and inspire sustainable habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why This Campaign Matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools are not only centers of learning but also spaces where values and behaviors are shaped. Unfortunately, poor waste management and plastic pollution have become persistent challenges in many educational institutions, leading to health risks, environmental degradation, and diminished learning conditions. The Clean and Green Campaign was designed to address these issues head-on by combining environmental education with practical action. By engaging students directly, EEFABE aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and leadership among young people, ensuring that environmental stewardship becomes a lifelong commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Objectives of the Initiative<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign had a clear overarching goal: <strong>to promote plastic waste reduction<\/strong>,<strong> environmental cleanliness and responsible waste management through youth-led action<\/strong>. environment showed visible improvement, and students demonstrated teamwork and environmental responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Waste and sachets<\/strong>: 33 kg (40%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Paper waste<\/strong>: 21 kg (25%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This breakdown underscores the dominance of plastic waste in school environments and the need for targeted interventions such as recycling programs and awareness campaigns aimed at plastic waste reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges and Lessons Learned<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite its success, the campaign faced challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Limited availability of cleaning tools and protective equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insufficient waste bins within the school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short duration of the activity, which limited coverage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, these challenges provided valuable lessons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Youths are highly motivated when given leadership roles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practical environmental action reinforces classroom learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waste segregation improves understanding of pollution sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School-based campaigns are effective entry points for long-term behavioral change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sustainability and Next Steps<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign aligns with the <strong>UNEP Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC)<\/strong> effort to end plastic pollution through a comprehensive, legally-binding global treaty, addressing the full lifecycle of plastics, including impacts on marine environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our work reflects commitments made at <strong>UNEA\u20117<\/strong>, where Member States adopted a resolution on <em>Enhancing the Meaningful Participation of Youth in Environmental Processes and on Environmental Education<\/em>, mandating schools worldwide to integrate environmental learning and youth leadership into curricula<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure lasting impact, EEFABE recommends:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Establishing environmental clubs within schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organizing regular clean-up exercises<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continuing sensitization sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborating with school authorities and local councils for waste management infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installing
